A shocking case of domestic violence stunned Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, on Saturday, July 26, 2025, when Igor Eduardo Pereira Cabral, a 29-year-old former basketball player, was arrested in flagrante after brutally assaulting his girlfriend, Juliana Garcia dos Santos Soares, 35, with over 60 punches inside an elevator in a high-end condominium in the Ponta Negra neighborhood. The attack, captured on security cameras, was triggered by jealousy after Cabral found messages on Juliana’s phone, where she was chatting with a friend of his with no romantic intent. The victim sustained facial and jaw fractures, requiring surgery, and the aggressor’s arrest was converted to preventive detention.
