Armed Man Died Shot By Kern County Deputy In A Confrontation

Bakersfield, California — On May 9, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 600 block of Water Street for a report of a male subject armed with a hammer, a machete, and a firearm. Upon arrival deputies located a subject, later identified as 42-year-old Sadi Geovani Diaz, armed with a gun. Body-camera footage shows Diaz point his gun at a Deputy. A Deputy-involved shooting occurred. After being struck, Diaz still raised his gun and shot at a Deputy, striking him in the hand.
