According to police reports, residents of Gaskin Bay Road in Bon Accord heard a loud noise around 4:30 am on Wednesday.
Upon checking, they observed Melville on fire, running around in a yard of a home in the area.
Melville then threw himself into a nearby water barrel to extinguish himself.
